Alonzo Greaves rode away with the feature event, a 15 mile journey around the outer circuit of the National Park, when the Guyana Cycling Federation staged the Cecil Anderson Memorial cycling event on Sunday morning.
On his way to victory, Greaves copped 2 of the sprint prizes up for grabs while second place finisher, Robin Persaud also won two sprint prizes. Ryan Austin closed off the podium positions but failed to chalk up a prime prize while Eric Sankar won the other sprint prize but had to settle for the fourth place. Ian Jackson brought up the rear. This event was sponsored by Monty Davis of New York.
The day started successfully for Shaquel Agard who rode away with the honours in the BMX Open-3 laps event sponsored by Marcus Fiedtkou, while Randy Haynes finished second in this category. Jude Bentley easily out-rode a competitive field to win the Agri Parts sponsored Mountain /Upright Bikes 3 laps event leaving in his wake Richard Charles and Ozia McCually who finished second and third, respectively.
Junior Niles triumphed in the Veterans Open 4 laps event, sponsored by Ray’s Auto Spares, after outlasting Kennard Lovell (2nd) and Ian Jackson (3rd). In the junior, 5 laps event sponsored by Jiffi Lubes, Chris Holder took the top prize while the second and third places went to Rastaff O’Selmo and Paul DeNobreiga, respectively.
