Dear Editor,
Mr Lloyd Phillips wrote in a letter titled. “Lack of unity by the AFC will be their downfall”, (Kaieteur News, September 13th 2010). The writer clearly is another member of the “preserve the status quo” brigade – staunch defenders of the PNC/PPP albatross – that have enslaved our people since independence.
First I must congratulate the AFC’s National Executive Committee (NEC) for making what clearly is a very difficult decision to not join any so called big tent or coalition with the PNC and their various apologists.
Many of these so called PNCites who are vociferous advocates of the PNC and or their new name JOPP, are lost causes who think that they can continue to bully Guyanese who will just roll over for them. The AFC is a vibrant new organisation which is rightfully so, challenging both the PPP and the PNC, and creating another choice for voters in this country so that we can get rid of the tit for tat politics, and also get rid of the politics of convenience, where the PPP and PNC collude to deprive the people of this country their democratic rights.
Why should the AFC unite with the PNC who has colluded with the Jagdeo regime to ignore the laws of this country and illegally divide scrutineers’ money amongst themselves, which were supposed to be for local government election purposes and be divided equally amongst political parties, including the AFC and GAP/ROAR? Why would we unite with the PNC who negotiates lovely opposition leader benefit packages, but cannot negotiate anything for the people of this country?
The PNC has also colluded with the PPP on avoiding local government elections at a cost of $250 million to taxpayers, where is this money? The game is PPP blames the PNC and the PNC blames the PPP and the people continue to lose.
Somehow Mr Eric Phillips gets the impression that the decision of the AFC to say no to the ‘tenters’ is somehow a decision that rests solely on Mr. Khemraj Ramjattan’s shoulders. This is where many in the PPP and PNC cannot fathom that there is a party in Guyana that actually has democratic mechanisms and processes for decision-making. I know it’s shocking and terrifying to the PNC and PPP that this kind of democratic behaviour exists. They are thinking down the road, now what would happen if the AFC gets elected and actually starts doing what the people want? Can you hear the teeth chattering?
Mr Phillips continues his rant with constant racial analysis and fuzzy maths about percentages and a litany of hypotheticals about who would win an election and who would win with who and who would lose without what. You know what, this country has lost too much over the years because of all the hypothetical nonsense also known as fear mongering that the PPP and PNC have been driving into the heads of our brothers and sisters to scare them into a familiar corner where they then unleash their dastardly work to deprive this country of the true successes that it deserves.
Mr Phillips also goes on with a rant about unity. The truth is, Mr Phillips, we the AFC are united with the people of this country to assure you, the PPP and the PNC that we have had enough of your sick lies that you continue to peddle to con us into believing that we should vote for you.
No more, we are going to end this cycle of racist ideology and racial politics and we will demonstrate to this country true leadership, honesty and character. We will live by the moral standards that this country and its citizens will demand from us and we will be more than happy to make them proud. We will also respect the laws of this country which clearly, neither the PPP nor the PNC understand how to do.
