Relatives of 17-year-old Hennrico Jerrick, of Bee Hive, Mahaica, who died while being treated at the Georgetown Public Hospital more than a month ago, had succumbed to malaria.
According to the teen’s mother, Leslyn Monize, about two weeks ago officials from the Georgetown Public Hospital provided the family with the medical report on the child’s post mortem.
The mother said that after weeks of speculation, she can now rest since she knows what exactly caused her son’s death.
Yesterday, the teen’s mother said that she was still mourning her loss but at least she has answers. She told this newspaper that her son would have been happy to see his Caribbean Examination Council results. According to Monize, her son passed six subjects at the CXC exams.
On July 29, last, Jerrick died while being treated at the Georgetown Public Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit. At the time his relatives said that he was being treated for Leptospirosis. Then they were told that he was being treated for malaria. After being hospitalised for one day, Jerrick died.
What was also worrying to the teen’s family was the fact that their home was visited immediately after his death by a team from the Ministry of Health.
At the time, too, the family felt that the Ministry and the hospital were down playing cases of dengue fever.
