Mounter, Beveney & Moore join squad; Lloyd & Brown expected tomorrow
Preparations are continuing at a rapid pace as the ‘Golden Jaguars’ prepare for Sunday’s clash against Trinidad and Tobago’s Soca Warriors at the National Stadium, Providence.
Yesterday afternoon despite heavy rain, the national footballers were seen hard at training at the Carifesta Sports Complex Ground under the guidance of Head Coach Wayne Dover and his Assistants, Collie Hercules, Bilal Nantambu and Gavin Brown.
The morning session took the form of a physical session with the players working on speed and endurance.
Yesterday afternoon, a recovery session was held in the form of a fun game before the players worked on finishing and defending set plays.
Dover said that he is satisfied with the level of commitment his charges are showing so far and welcomed into the squad the Trinidad and Tobago based duo of defender Walter Moore, midfielder Shawn Beveney and England based Alinani Mounter.
Two more England based players in Jason Lloyd (goalkeeper) and Fabian Brown (midfielder) are expected to touch down tomorrow; Chris Bourne on Thursday with John Rodrigues and Chris Nurse expected on Friday.
Both Trinidad and Guyana are preparing for action in the 2010 Digicel Caribbean Cup tournament which kicks off next month with matches in groups A, B, C and D.
Guyana will compete in Group C which will be hosted by Suriname at the Andre Kamperveen Stadium. St. Lucia and the Netherlands Antilles will also compete in this group.
Trinidad and Tobago will host the second round which will feature the top two teams from the opening rounds along with Grenada, Cuba, Guadeloupe, Haiti and Antigua & Barbuda.
The Tournament Finals will be held in Martinique where qualified teams will meet the host’s national team or 2008’s defending champion, Jamaica in a group stage before moving on to the Semifinals and Final.
