Bartica robbery/ murders…
Some of the gang members who allegedly tortured, robbed and killed gold dealers
Jainarine Raghubar and Ramdeo Deonarine earlier this month, are due to appear in court today.
Among them is the alleged mastermind, called Satan Ambassador, who hails from Agricola.
However, the hunt is still on for an ex-soldier who is said to be a key gang member.
He is said to have disarmed one of the gold dealers shortly after the victim entered the house from a ‘session’ with friends in Bartica.
He was also said to among the gang members who remained behind after the group had found $25 million in a suitcase in an upstairs apartment and other cash, some 100 ounces of raw gold, a quantity of jewellery, a large diamond worth at least $15 million and two firearms, one of them being the property of Ricky Ramnarine, another gold dealer at Bartica.
The alleged mastermind, who provided investigators with a detailed account of the crime, said that he left the ex-soldier, and an accomplice called ‘Dog’ in the house.
The killers left Bartica by speedboat early on the morning of September 5 and headed to a house in Lodge where they split the takings.
But police say that they are still to find any of the money. They have been able to seize four cars and one ATV believed to have been bought with some of the money taken from the slain gold dealers.
Six people are in custody and some of them are providing even more details of the Bartica robbery/murders that led police along many trails until they got a lucky break.
One of the suspects had become the target of gunmen in Agricola and he chose to run to the police rather than surrender his life.
A police rank attached to the Tactical Services Unit, who happened to be on annual leave, reportedly took $1.9 million from one of the suspects.
He also seized the suspect’s newly bought car and demanded that the alleged gang member give him $5 million more.
But the gang member informed police officials.
He was arrested while sitting in his car as the money was being deposited in his vehicle.
The mastermind, who is known as Satan Ambassador for his knowledge of almost every criminal activity that occurs around the country, once worked as a mechanic for the now dead Raghubar.
He bought two cars, spent four nights at Princess International Hotel where he gambled and lost in the casino. His other hotel bills amounted $289,000 for the four days.
