Dear Editor,
A serious health hazard of sewage over-flow has erupted in Henry Street, Werk-en-Rust, dating back to Thursday 9th September, 2010.
The sewage waters are flowing continuously in yards. The Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) received initial reports and made a promise to rectify the problem. Reports were also directed to The Public Utilities Commission (PUC) in an effort to press for urgent action.
Until now, GWI has not visited the location nor sought to grant any relief to the situation except for issuing a mere reference number.
Relief of some measure is overdue here in the capital of the country. The residents are suffering severely, not to mention the stench and health risks.
Use of outdoor facilities has been aborted as a result.
In the circumstances, it is only humane that GWI apply the water rates already paid for the current year to 201, and offer some tangible compensation for damage duly done to property.
