– Qualfon throws out challenge to Republic Bank
It’s on at the Burnham Basketball Court tonight after Qualfon Call Centre has thrown out a major challenge to Republic Bank in a grudge basketball game. Both teams have since taken the contest seriously and would be coming full throttle under floodlights.
The financial institution’s resolve in the grudge basketball game will be seriously tested after one of their most recent upsets at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall against Scotia Bank. Republic Bank will be looking to turn their fortunes around against Qualfon.
The East Coast-based Call Centre has been practicing, holding its internal inter-shift contest over eight weeks ago while they also played in the earlier stages of the Georgetown League as part of the entertainment factor of the League that finished yesterday.
Both teams have been playing competitive basketball and President of the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association, Trevor Rose believes tonight’s game will continue a heated rivalry amid the corporate community that started at the inter-association event.
In addition, Rose told Kaieteur Sport that the game tonight’s marks the completion of the League and the introduction of the Pepsi Street Series, which will start next weekend. Rose believes that the rivalry is just what basketball wants to get spectator’s support.
“All this is part of our plan to bring back spectators to the Burnham Court. We know that both of the teams that will play have a large following and we are hoping to capture that at the Burnham Basketball Court tonight,” Rose said, adding that it will be a good game.
He stated that there will also be another grudge game among Bounty Colts and Colours Panthers while there will be several entertainment factors to keep basketball alive as it transitions to what is being promoted as a tough street series for $200,000 in cash prizes.
