In a hectic battle for championship honours, Stabroek Market trounced Mahdia Market 2-0 on penalty kicks and were duly declared winner when the curtains came down on the Stabroek Warriors Sports 5th Annual 5 a-side Futsal Football tournament at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH) August month end last.
Friday afternoon, the respective winners received their prizes at a simple ceremony held at the Banks DIH Thirst Park head office.
Coordinator of the tournament, O’Neil Durant apologized for the delayed presentation and cited logistical problems for the reason.
He further congratulated the winners and extended heartfelt gratitude to the sponsors, Banks DIH and other corporate bodies including the proprietor of Mohamed Enterprise on Lombard Street, Georgetown. Guinness Brand Manager, Lee Baptiste lauded the respective winners while pointing out that his company was delighted to have been a part of the tournament. He then committed to future assistance for the tournament.
The winning team carted off $200,000, a trophy and medals, while the runners-up collected $150,000 and medals while third-place finishers Bourda Market received $50,000.
Travis Bess who represented Stabroek Market and was adjudged best goalie while Alevo Olivera carted off the prize for scoring the most goals (11). Nippy forward, Gerald Whittington received the trophy for the Most Valuable Player.
