Guyana Scouts Association takes part in “Clean up the World Day”
Clean up the World is one of the largest community-based environmental campaigns being undertaken around the world.
According to Hosni Campbell, a leader of the scout group in Guyana, members of the scouting movement in Guyana participate in this campaign. The leader added that the scouts mostly focus on the seawall area and every year they clean a different part.
The World Organisation of the Scout Movement (WOSM) has been an ally with Clean up the World since 2008. As a result, scouting groups in Guyana undertake this as a yearly calendar activity.

Participants in Clean up the World organise and carry out activities and longer-term environmental projects throughout the year. However, the campaign culminates with a special focus on the Clean up the World Weekend which ends today. The theme for this year’s Campaign is “Communities caring for nature”.
An estimated 35 million volunteers from 120 countries are now taking part annually, including many National Scout Organisations (NSOs). Last year, Scouts in over 22 countries took part in CUW activities.
Activities range from cleaning up small villages to national clean up events. Across many regions, communities also implemented recycling programmes, energy conservation, tree planting and awareness raising activities.
In some countries participants of clean up the world go as far as to clean the ocean.
