Travelling delegation based on funds
The Executive of the Guyana Amateur Body Building & Fitness has shortlisted an 8-member team ( 2 females 6 males) to represent Guyana at the 38th IFBB Central American & Caribbean Amateur Bodybuilding & Fitness Championships set for September 22-26, Palm Beach, Aruba.
The final travelling party though will depend on funds raised by the individual athletes who have all gone into overdrive in their quest to represent their country at the championships set for next Friday and Saturday.
It will cost approximately US$1,500 for each athlete to attend and GABBFF President Fiona Harris is of the view that the medal prospects are good.
Leading Guyana’s charge will be 2010 Mr. Guyana Clint Duke who also won the Welterweight class.
Winner of the Heavyweight category at the 2010 GABBFF championship held on Sunday last Mr. Guyana 2009 Oswin Jones; Lightweight winner and 2009 CAC silver medalist Marlon Bennett; Curtis McKenzie (2010 Fitness champion); Bantamweight King Devon Davis and Rudolph Blackman who will compete in the Under-21 category are the other males who have been selected.
Reigning Miss Guyana Alisha Fortune who placed 5th on debut at last year’s CAC championships will lead Guyana’s charge on the distaff side along with Kescia Beaton, Miss Guyana runner-up. The CAC Championships is sanctioned by the IFBB, through the Central American and Caribbean Bodybuilding & Fitness Federation (CACBBFF) which is a Continental branch of the IFBB with 38 affiliated countries and territories.
The GABBFF according to its President Fiona Harris has written to the Minister of Culture Youth and Sport Dr. Frank Anthony indicating that Guyana will be bidding to host the 2012 CAC championships which will mark the 40th anniversary of the championships.
Guyana hosted the 2004 CAC championships under the Presidency of Yale Holder and Secretary, Donald Sinclair.
