The 17-year-old Venezuelan suspect who robbed and murdered Guyanese miner, Michael Higgins, last week, died on Monday in the hospital where he was treated for gunshot wound to his leg.
Reports reaching this publication stated that the teenager succumbed days after he was admitted to the hospital for a gunshot wound he sustained during a scuffle with the deceased.
It was also reported that the teen could have died from injuries he sustained at the hands of persons who witnessed the murder.
A close relative of Higgins claimed that upon receiving his body from the Venezuelans authorities, yesterday, they found that all of Higgins’s gold teeth were missing and his body was already decomposing.
Higgins, 36, formally of Timehri who operates a dredge in Kaikan, Upper Cuyuni District was attacked on Friday in full view of his Guyanese business colleagues, while he visited neighbouring Venezuela to make purchases.
He was taken to a Venezuela Health Facility where he later succumbed. A post mortem examination found that he died from a single gunshot wound to his heart. The relatives of the deceased described him as a caring and loving individual who looks after his family diligently.
