The Ministry of Education recently tasked the Monitoring Evaluation Reporting and development (M.E.RD) Unit and the Regional Education Department’s Inspectorate Team to visit schools nationwide to ensure that there is effective supervision and monitoring of the education system.
Minister of Education, Shaik Baksh, has admitted that there are challenges in the education system as it relates to teachers’ attendance, punctuality, classroom management, preparation of the scheme of work and the successful completion of the school’s curriculum.
The Education Ministry, through the M.E.R.D unit and the regional education department’s inspectorate team will summon teachers to improve themselves in fulfilling their duties and responsibilities, thereby improving the education system, said Baksh.
Minister Baksh stated that the inspectorate team visits schools and makes reports on areas such as teachers’ scheme of work and notes of lessons.
He stated that in ensuring that the education officers are able to effectively conduct their visits to the schools, the Ministry has secured approval for administrative officers to be stationed at each regional education department, which enables the regional education officers to conduct visits frequently. Baksh noted that after these visits are made, the education officers will submit reports to the M.E.R.D unit, highlighting the issues facing the schools.
The Minister further stated that apart from the visits by the regional education officers, it is the responsibility of the head teachers to ensure that proper supervision takes place in the school system.
