– Blair to contact REO on rehabilitation works
The Executive Committee of the Mackenzie Sports Club (MSC) was responsible for the erection of an eastern bleacher built earlier this year and also the clearing of the court for the construction of a further 60-foot bleacher and resurfacing of the basketball court.
Secretary of the Sports Club, Rawle Blair told Kaieteur Sport yesterday that he wanted to make it clear that it was not the Linden Amateur Basketball Association that did those works. Blair stated that the MSC procured the necessary equipment to clear the court.
“We built the bleacher to the tune of over $600,000 and we got the crane to break down those old bleachers,” Blair said, adding that the Sports Club is aware of the scope of work and schedule for the rehabilitation of the facility, which has not commenced.
Following a Kaieteur Sport article last Saturday in which President of the Linden sub-association for basketball, Abdulla Hamid lamented the non-progress of the works, the malfunctioning paver of the contractor has since been blamed for the stalled works.
Blair said, other than the basic timeframe for the works, he does not know the contractor, but will make contact with Regional Executive Officer (REO), Henry Rodney to get more details because he understands that the Regional Office is in possession of the funds.
