Appearing before Chief Magistrate Priya Beharry, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, yesterday, was Leon Barlow, who was charged with robbery under arms yesterday.
It is alleged that August 28, last, the defendant took Terry Corbin (female) to a hotel in the city and robbed her of a quantity of articles valued $ 59,000. Included in the theft was some $3,500 in cash. The defendant, who was unrepresented, pleaded not guilty to the charge and made an application for bail.
He indicated that the day in question, he was not at the location and the police picked him up for an identity parade.
Police Prosecutor, Stephen Telford, objected to bail on the grounds of the evidence against the defendant. Telford indicated that the victim identified Barlow at an I.D parade.
The Magistrate refused bail and ordered the defendant to return to court on October 19.
Also appearing before the Magistrate was Orin Welcome of Costello Housing Scheme, who was charged with unlawful wounding.
It is alleged that on Monday, the defendant wounded Jermaine Dover with the intent to disable or disfigure, causing serious bodily harm
The defendant, who was unrepresented, pleaded guilty and contended that he was defending himself.
Magistrate Beharry then entered a not guilty plea for the defendant. Prosecutor Telford objected to bail and indicated that Welcome was recently charged with the same offence.
The Magistrate refused bail and the defendant is scheduled to make his next court appearance on September 20.
