A Corentyne businessman shot and wounded a thief whom he allegedly caught red handed in the process of stealing from his premises on Monday afternoon.
Ganeshwar Haridat, 35, of No79 village was shot in his left arm and left leg around 14:00 hrs by the businessman, Davendra ‘Mike’ Parawaroo, after he was found in the process of stealing some energy saver bulbs.
Kaieteur News understands that the businessman who owns a general store was at his business place at No 78 Village, Corriverton, when he received a call that someone was walking up and down in his backyard.
He immediately armed himself with his firearm and went to investigate. He confronted the individual.
The suspect, it is understood, had armed himself with a stick and a wire and was hooking the bulbs and pulling them through a hole. The businessman called upon the man to surrender when he tried to flee, forcing the businessman to open fire wounding him in his left arm and leg. He still managed to jump the fence.
The police were informed and responded immediately. Upon searching the area they found a quantity of bulbs that were already removed and stashed. The cops continued to search the area and came upon the injured bandit lying in an alleyway.
He was picked up and taken to the Skeldon hospital and was later transferred to the New Amsterdam Hospital where he is presently hospitalised under police guard.
And the police are investigating two separate cases of wounding, where two men were hospitalised in unconscious condition at the New Amsterdam hospital.
The shootings occurred in the same village on the same day that a bandit was found dead.
The first incident occurred around 07:00 hrs on Sunday.
Mahadeo Budnarine, called Chico, 37, of Kilcoy Squatting area, was struck on the head with an iron rod. It is understood that the victim was with some friends drinking when a misunderstanding developed between the drinking parties and Budnarine was clobbered in the head.
He fell to the ground and his attacker fled the scene. He was picked up in an unconscious state and rushed to the New Amsterdam hospital where he remained warded.
The next incident occurred around 15:30. It is understood that Satishwar Mohabeer, 30, of Kilcoy Squatting area was involved in a misunderstanding and was chopped on his right shoulder, palm and knee by his assailant who used a cutlass and then fled the scene. The man was picked up in an unconscious condition and taken to the New Amsterdam hospital when he remains a patient.
