Development of facilities is priority
FIFA Referee Roland Persaud has been elected President of the Bartica Community Development Council (BCDC).
According to a release from Public Relations Officer Alden Marslowe, the activation of this committee was as a result of an initiative put forward by the Bartica Football Association (BFA) to the Bartica Neighbourhood Democratic Council (BNDC) which identified the personnel to serve on the BCDC.
Chairman of the BNDC, Gerald Joseph, explained that his organisation is mandated by law to have a functioning sports council, but this has been lacking for some time. However, upon being approached by the BFA, the BNDC decided to incorporate the services of four persons (each) from the local football and cricket associations with one from the BNDC, to overlook the affairs of all sports facilities under the guardianship of the BNDC. Mr Joseph said that the sports council will become active with immediate effect.
Foremost on the agenda of activities of the new sports council will be to identify and address the immediate need for facilities at the Bartica Community Centre Ground, which is the only functioning sports ground in the village of twelve thousand residents.
Secretary of the BFA, Carlton Beckles, disclosed his organisation’s intention to contribute, both monetary and otherwise, to the construction of dressing rooms, washrooms and an internal fence; and also towards the employment of a Ground Attendant at the facility.
Those elected to serve on the BCDC are President – Roland Persaud; Vice-President – Anthony Murray; Secretary/Treasurer – Festus Benn; Public Relations Officer – Alden Marslowe; Committee Members – Theresa Wilson, Troy Harper, Richard Williams and Boodesh Chatterpaul.
