Businessman Roy Bacchus of Prashad Nagar yesterday made a presentation of $100,000 to Guyana’s lone Olympic medalist Michael Parris on the 30th anniversary of him achieving a bronze medal at the Moscow Olympics in 1980.
Bacchus informed that although honouring Parris 30 years on, it was better late than never and others should emulate his gesture. He congratulated the Guyana Amateur Boxing Association for highlighting the achievement of Parris which has not been matched to date.
GABA President Steve Ninvalle was instrumental in arranging the contribution by Mr. Bacchus. Mae’s School had also made an undisclosed cash presentation to Parris as an anniversary present in honour of his feat.
Bacchus also doled out $50,000 to GABA to assist that organisation in their operation.
Ninvalle expressed thanks to Bacchus for his support of GABA and his timely gesture to Parris, someone who should be fully honoured by all Guyana for his achievement which remain unmatched 30 years later.
