The Georgetown Municipal Day Care Service recently received a number of donations, including food items, furniture and books from Food For The Poor Inc. (Guyana).
At the handing-over ceremony, director of the Municipal Day Care Service, Paulette Bollers, stated that the council is indeed appreciative for this kind of gesture, since it will help to enhance the quality of services provided by the institution.
Bollers further noted that this aid comes at a vital time in the history of the Mayor and City Council.
The executive director for the F.F.T.P Inc., Leon Davis, said that he is pleased to support the municipality and vowed his continuous support to the work of the Day Care Centre.
In Guyana, Day Care facilities were first established by Mayor and City Council. The Municipal Day Care Service was established in 1921.
The facility provides a social service to mothers, who work in the City. Currently, the municipality has six centres with approximately 400 children, ages ranging from six months to five years old.
These centres are located at South Road, Festival City, Charlestown, East Ruimveldt, Industrial Site and Campbellville in Georgetown.
The Municipal Day Care Service also provides training for care givers throughout Guyana.
