Dear Editor,
A little while back a close relative experienced a broad daylight robbery just under the Stabroek Market clock.
Her gold bangle was literally taken away in the presence of other persons who apparently just hang out there on a daily basis and did absolutely nothing in coming to her rescue.
She chose not to raise an alarm because she was so scared that her attacker might very well be carrying a concealed weapon and she could have sustained injuries.
The joke to date is that where that gold bangle came from, there are plenty more.
Life is always more precious than materialistic items.
It is indeed a tragic loss of the Demerara Bank employee, Ms. Sheema Mangar who apparently succumbed from internal injuries after her body was dragged on the streets by her attacker in a vehicle for a cell phone…..My respect to the bereaved – rest in peace SM.
This young lady’s life may have been taken tragically, but she was one very brave and courageous person to stand up to her attacker.
God forbids, but should anyone experience such similar attack, please let go of your possessions. Your life is of more importance.
T. Pemberton
