A post mortem performed on 36-year-old miner, Michael Higgins, formerly of Timehri, found that he died from a single gunshot wound to his heart.
According to the dead man’s relatives, Higgins’s body will arrive in Guyana from Venezuela today and will be taken to the Sandy’s Funeral Home.
His brother, O’Neil, said that Higgins died while receiving medical treatment at a Venezuela Health Centre.
It was reported, that a 17-year-old Venezuelan, who is a suspect in the robbery/murder remains warded in the hospital under police guard.
The teen is nursing a gunshot wound to his leg, which he sustained during the scuffle while he was robbing the deceased.
The late Higgins left his mining camp at Kaikan, Upper Cuyuni District, on Friday for Venezuela to make purchases, it was there he was shot while in the company of his Guyanese Business colleagues.
The bandits also relieved him of an undisclosed sum of cash. The deceased siblings described him as a caring and loving individual who diligently cared for his family.
