The body of a man who was described as a well known thief was discovered yesterday morning with several chops to the head and hands on the Kilcoy, Corentyne foreshore.
The body of Ryan Ramkirpaul, 38, was discovered at around 09:00 hours by a group of women who had gone to fish in the area.
According to reports reaching this newspaper, both of Ramkirpaul’s wrists were slashed and there were deep gashes to his head and the back of his neck.
Police believe that he was killed somewhere else and taken to the Kilcoy Foreshore, since there was little blood at the scene.
Residents of Kilcoy said that Ramkirpaul was seen in the area two days ago.
Following his sighting, several residents reported losses from their properties and it is believed that Ramkirpaul was the perpetrator.
The dead man originally hailed from Fyrish Village where he lived with his father up to a few years ago.
Ramkirpaul’s relatives have distanced themselves from him since he has been in and out of prison within recent years and they claimed that they were unaware of his whereabouts.
According to one relative, five years ago, while living with his father, Ramkirpaul inflicted a severe beating on the older man while robbing him of $20,000.
He was jailed for that offence.
Police in a press release stated that Ramkirpaul was released from prison last May.
The police said that he had served several prison sentences for various criminal offences including robbery under arms and larceny.
His father, who declined to give his name, told this newspaper that he is relieved that an unwelcomed episode of his life is over.
Police are investigating the matter.
