A cricket outgoing for 23 year old Javid Mohamed of lot 636, Best Plantation West Coast Demerara turned out to be his last, after he was found dead in a drain outside the Better Hope Centre on the East Coast Demerara, with a single stab wound to the chest.
An associate of the slain man has been detained.
The police in a press statement yesterday said that Mohamed’s body was discovered shortly after 01:00hrs yesterday by ranks from a mobile patrol.
The policemen assisted in taking Mohamed’s body to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The slain man’s father, Yusuf Mohamed, said that he last saw his son on Saturday morning as he was preparing for work.
He explained that his son worked as a carpenter/mason at Diamond, East Coast Demerara.
The father explained that relatives received the tragic news some time around 03:30 hrs.
“The police called and said that he was involved in an incident and he died so we should check at the hospital,” Mohamed explained.
Immediately after receiving the news relatives rushed to the hospital, only to have their worst fears confirmed.
“I never expected this…I always thought my son would have to bury me…but it’s the other way around,” the weeping man said.
His father described the murder as a cruel act adding that the person should be dealt with severely.
His sister was the person who identified the body the Georgetown Hospital Mortuary, yesterday morning.
Mohamed said his son had gone to the Better Hope area to watch a cricket match with friends.
One of the friends with whom he was seen was held for questioning but was later released.
Kaieteur News understands that the friend has told investigators that he went to the urinal, and upon his return Mohamed was gone.
The friend reportedly only became aware that something was amiss when the police visited the cricket ground.
Meanwhile, relatives expressed sincere thanks to ranks at the Sparendaam Police Station.
“The police were very co-operative and high praises must be extended to them,” said the father.
