Dear Editor?
I would like to know to what degree ‘music playing’ is considered a noise nuisance?
My letter relates to the acts of persistent attacks, torment and abuse residents in my neighbourhood experience from the police because of an ex-superintendent of police influence and contacts.
Over the past few months, it has been an ongoing dilemma that is vigorously affecting my neighbourhood, and our cries, complains and begging for help are falling on deaf ears.
Music is a strong physical, emotional and mental form of relaxation and our reality is such that no one in this neighbourhood is allowed to play any music, not even their radios. We are affected in such a manner that it’s even impossible to perform religious activities e.g. playing a bajan, Islamic hymns or gospels during worship.
Why does an entire neighbourhood have to suffer because an ex-superintendent of police thinks that music in every form is evil and demonic? He’s using his power to influence police harassment on us the voiceless people.
Recent example of his cruelty, one member of our neighbourhood had to go to court for months.
All the pain, stress and expense for baseless reasons; eventually the case was dismissed on 8th September 2010 at Reliance Magistrate Court.
However; residents of this neighbourhood continue to face discrimination and court battles.
What are our rights; we are taking a stand against this treatment. We’re shouting in agony to those in authority to do something, we are all the same and we all deserve to have equal justice.
