A number of sporting activities have been planned by the Principals of the A. Ally and Sons chain of stores and business enterprise in Berbice to highlight their 25th Anniversary celebrations. Millions of dollars have been put aside for promotion, sponsorship and prizes for the various events.
This and other information was passed on to the Media at a press briefing held on Tuesday at the Caribbean Cuisine Restaurant No 2 East Canje Berbice, by CEO of the Company Fizal Ally.
The Business entity which has it genesis in East Canje now has four stores in Berbice among other business entities with the main Branch being situated at Main Street and Coopers Lane in New Amsterdam. There are other branches at Sheet Anchor village, East Canje, Stand New Amsterdam and Corriverton Corentyne.
The company has planned a series of elaborate activities with sports playing a significant part of the plans as it observe 25 years in existing this year.
Most of the activities will take place in the month of September with a few spilling over to October. Among the sporting activities planned is a national one day Chess competition to be held in New Amsterdam which will include all the top chess players in Guyana. A 25th anniversary Cycle Road race in Berbice, which will also be open to all cyclists in Guyana, sponsorship for horseracing, a Spelling B competition and other interschool and youth and community activities are among other events on the drawing board.
The dates and other details of most of the events will be finalized shortly. Some of the activities will be spontaneous the CEO said. A. Ally and Sons presently sponsors national Junior Cycling champion Neil Reece and national Chess champion Kriskal Persaud, both Berbicians. The company also sponsors numerous other sporting events including horseracing, cycling, community and school based events.
Speaking to the media, Fizal Ally said that what the company is doing; apart from its 25th Anniversary celebrations is also part of its obligation to give back to the community from where they garner their support.
He said that it is an honour and a privilege to be able to serve the public, in one way or the other. Sports he said plays and integral part in any community development and they will always support Sports. Mentioning the numerous presentations to various sporting organisations, schools and other community activities throughout the years which is all part of the community development. Alluding to the Companies motto of “Making Life better one day at a time.”
