Magistrate Priya Beharry yesterday placed salesman, Vishal Nandlall, on $200,000 bail when he appeared before her at the Georgetown Magistrates Court on a charge of abducting a young woman.
It was alleged that on October 12, 2009, he abducted the woman and held against her will. He was not required to plead to the charge since it was indictable.
His lawyer, Mark Waldron, in a bail application said his client had no previous antecedents.
The lawyer explained to the court that his client went to pay a bill when he befriended the female.
Waldron said that the two exchanged names and numbers, and that it was the female who called his client two days after.
According to the lawyer, the young woman called and asked his client to pick her up from a popular Sheriff Street spot. The lawyer alleges that his client was taking her home, when the female just picked up her phone and called her parents.
The prosecution had no objection to bail, and it was granted in the tune of $200,000.
He is now expected to make his next court appearance on September 14.
