The nation was told that the Government will not tolerate citizens that seek to create divisions in the country with their commentaries and political activities. The Guyanese people were told the regime is ready to “rumble” (their word) with such citizens. Simply put, the cabal that reigns over the land is saying that their enemies and their critics are bent on creating divisions, not the regime itself.
Two strange things have happened that makes one believe that the dictators are themselves out to make mischief as the election tempo gets going. First, it is nasty, sickening and unspeakable hypocrisy that the election monitoring unit of GECOM has been disbanded at the request of the dictators. The GECOM’s media outfit is not part of the private media. It comes under the supervision of GECOM and its role is to monitor media behaviour during the election campaign. The group of people that should be unrestrained in their demands for the preservation of the media group in GECOM should be the PPP leaders who function in the Cabinet.
Those very dictators tell us ad nauseum that certain entities in the private media are the new opposition. The Guyanese people were told last week through reports in the state media that sections of the private media want to take away the future of young people in Guyana. It has become as crazy, strange and bizarre as that. There has been no exception (I have researched it) that when a public address is given that the private media is not derogated, demeaned and vilified. If there is anything you can predict about these official presentations, it is that there will be tempestuous rages against the independent media.
If the independent media has replaced the official opposition, if the private media that is not aligned to the Government has a plan to derail the future of Guyana, and if the non-aligned press is so conspiratorially devious, why in the election season would you abolish the GECOM unit that will monitor those very sections of the media that are out to cause destruction?
This is an extremely bewildering development that is very ominous and threatening.
What is the answer? This is another level of degenerative ghoulishness. The very people that say they will rumble if critics stir up divisions are themselves planning to campaign on ethnic platforms. The ethnic viciousness will take place mostly at the bottom house meetings.
These are sickening affairs where the rawest appeals to racial instincts are made. The state press and the pro-government private media will be the vehicles for such ethnic pandering. The media monitors at GECOM will expose and embarrass them so step number one is already in place -ban the outfit
The second strange thing we referred to above is the reference made during an official address to “bigoted academics.” Dr. David Hinds has reacted sharply to the insinuation. He believes he is the person intended, because of his denunciations of the recent presidential entourage in Buxton. Here is where the men who plan to rumble become hypocrites. How can you denounce people for attempting to create divisions and you are doing just that?
There is no need, no need whatsoever, to resort to the dictionary for a definition of “bigoted.” That word generally means and is perceived in the world to mean “racially prejudiced.” David Hinds is perfectly logical in his thinking that he is being accused of racial bias. You can seriously question whether that word has ever been used outside of its ethnic context.
Two reasons make the use of this word by the little dictators obnoxious. First, is that the little dictators are telling other people not to accuse them of racial policies; if and when you do they will sue you. And they have.
What we have here is bullyism of the worst kind. They are free to make the same accusation against you and the Constitution prevents you from suing them. Secondly, the hypocrisy of the dictators is foul and sickening.
They threaten you that they will rumble with you if you attempt to create divisions but they go to public forums, address Guyanese citizens and perpetuate the very division that they claim they do not want to see in Guyana.
Both David Hinds and I have a right to object to the term “bigoted academics” because the listeners can believe that we are the people the speakers have in mind. I don’t mind. Let them bray. I will continue to call them racist.
