Corporate Giants Demerara Distillers Ltd. under its international brand Pepsi has renewed its cricket sponsorship of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club’s Under-19 team for the 7th straight year.
The team sponsorship for 2010 is worth $220 000.00 and would cover the cost of cricket balls for matches and practice, cricket gear, meals during matches, umpires fees and transportation.
Secretary/CEO of Guyana’s leading Youth & Sports Club, Hilbert Foster at the presentation stated that Pepsi since 2009 has sponsored the club’s Under-19 team and has invested well over one million dollars.
The team under the sponsorship of Pepsi has won the Berbice Championships three times and is currently the back to back defending Champions of Berbice having won the Berbice Cricket Board Spready’s Under-19 tournament in 2008/2009.
Team member Dominic Rickie has represented Guyana at the Under-19 level in 2010, Shawn Perreira and Parmanand Narine the national Under-15 side while Perreira, Loyden Lewis and Shailendra Shameer were in the national Under-17 team.
Shemaine Campbell also represented Guyana and the West Indies at the female level and was the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the West Indies Cricket Board Female tournament. Additionally a total of 8 players played for Berbice at the junior level in 2010.
Foster also disclosed that the members of the team have been involved in ten personal development projects during the year with the main aim of making a positive difference in the lives of their fellow youths and the less fortunate.
The RHTY&SC Under-19 team over the years has produced 19 national junior players including Assad Fudadin, Royston Crandon, Esuan Crandon, Delbert Hicks and Khemraj Mahadeo.
Captain of the team, Dominic Rickie expressed gratitude to Pepsi for their continued confidence in the team and pledged that the members of the Pepsi team would in 2010 again be the Berbice Under-19 champions.
Rickie also committed the team to uphold the high standards it has set in the past and to continue to use the proven formula of hard work, dedication and discipline. Pepsi and DDL investment, Rickie stated has assisted players like himself to develop and for this they are very grateful.
Representative of Demerara Distillers Limited Ms. Alicia Anderson stated that her Company and Pepsi were pleased to be associated with the Rose Hall Town Pepsi team and was satisfied with their performances over the years.
Ms. Anderson reminded that Pepsi was always pleased to be associated with activities that kept youths away from the social ills of society. She also challenged the members of the team to maintain their high performances and to strive to retain the Berbice Under-19 Championship.
