Guyana’s Lady Jags now ranked 85th in the world
Hold number 8 in CONCACAF
For the first time in the history of Women’s football Guyana has found itself in the World rankings.
In the latest (August) FIFA/Coca Cola Women’s World Rankings Guyana’s Lady Jags is ranked 85th just above Mali at 86 and under the Philippines at 84. The United States of America (USA) holds down the number one position in the World and CONCACAF with the Lady Jags holding down number 8 in CONCACAF.

The determined Lady Jags for the first time in this country’s history qualified for the CONCACAF Gold Cup which will serve as this Confederation’s qualifying for the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Guyana cantered into the World Rankings on the back of their home and away aggregate win over Cuba (still ranked in the world) 3-2. The Lady Jags had lost 0-1 to Cuba in Cuba on June 26 but rebounded in the return game at the Guyana National Stadium Providence on July 3 to whip the Cubans 3-1 coming from a goal down to take the final CFU berth at the Gold Cup which is slated for October 28 to November 8 in Cancun, Mexico.
The top 10 teams in the world are the USA, Germany, Brazil, Sweden, Japan, Korea DPR, Norway, France, England and Denmark.
The USA is again at No. 1 in CONCACAF followed by Canada (13 in the world), Mexico (22), Trinidad & Tobago (46), Costa Rica (47), Haiti (61), Guatemala (80), Guyana (85), Dominican Republic (88) and Suriname (94) in the top 10.
In May 2010, Guyana had enjoyed provisional ranking status in the World but that is now history with their pair of wins over Cuba who were ranked 95 at the time in the World, now one place down to 96. (Franklin Wilson)
