Twenty-three year-old Kharyon Daniels aka Kharyon Khan, a fuel vendor of Parika Railway East Bank Essequibo, was denied bail yesterday when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, to answer to the charges of possession of a firearm and ammunition without a licence.
It is alleged that on Saturday last, the defendant was found with a Beretta pistol and one live round of ammunition in his possession.
Daniels, who was represented by attorney at law Adrian Thompson, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The lawyer in his bail application indicated that the defendant was not in possession of the firearm or ammunitions when he was arrested by the police.
He further stated that peace officers arrested another person, but only his client was charged.
Police prosecutor Stephen Telford objected to bail on the grounds of the evidence against the defendant.
Daniels was remanded to prison and is scheduled to make another court appearance on September 23.
Also appearing before Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson was 23-year-old Munesh Paul, a contractor, of 54 Uitvlugt Pasture W.C.D. who was charged with simple larceny.
It is alleged that between June 27 and 28, last, the defendant stole one Yamaha 1500 horse power outboard engine valued $475,000 from Kamille Mahengroo.
Paul, who was represented by attorney at law Mohammed Zafar, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The lawyer in a bail application indicated that the defendant was asked by a friend to sell the item for $220,000 and the police was given the name of the defendant’s friend.
Prosecutor Telford had no objection to bail.
Paul was granted bail to the tune of $75,000 and is scheduled to make his next court appearance on September 23.
