Two days after 19-year-old Orlon Munroe succumbed to burns he sustained almost three months ago, officials from the Ministry of Agriculture are yet to release the findings of an investigation, which was launched.
The teen sustained burns to over 90 percent of his body after his vessel, Captain Lloyd, which is registered to Prittipaul Singh Investments, exploded in the North West Region, some three months ago. Munroe was a patient in the Burns Care Unit of the Georgetown Hospital since the accident.
Also injured in the accident were Keith Adams, 20, of Cane Grove, Mahaica and George Fitzpatrick of West Ruimveldt. The body of the captain Delbert Williams was never recovered.
When contacted yesterday, representatives from the giant seafood company said that they were still awaiting the outcome of the report.
An official from the company said that regardless of the outcome of the investigation, they would be compensating Munroe’s family.
Meanwhile Minister of Agriculture, Robert Persaud, when contacted yesterday, said that he was out of the jurisdiction, but would be returning today.
The Minister promised that the report would be made public at least by Wednesday. Relatives of the dead teen said they are anxiously awaiting the findings of report.
One relative told this publication yesterday that representatives from Prittipaul Singh Investments had visited them with the intention of having a meeting with the family. However, both parents were not at home. The relative said that they are now expected to meet with the official today.
The relative further told Kaieteur News that a post mortem examination is to be conducted on Wednesday.
Munroe had told this newspaper that they (crew members) had attempted to start the engine but a wire started to spark and the next thing, there was fire “all over”.
“I feel fire all over me body and me and the Captain run out of the engine room. I jump overboard.”
George Fitzpatrick had also told this publication that he was sleeping when he was awakened by the heat. About 25 per cent of his body was burnt.
He said that he was able to put the badly injured Captain in a tub used to store fish while he and Todd managed to grab on to the cover of the same tub.
