Hotel offers GCB discounted rate
The Guyana cricketers, who used the Princess Hotel for the past two weeks as their encampment base, yesterday thanked the hotel and its staff for the hospitality shown to the players as they prepared to represent their country and the entire Caribbean in the Champions League T20 tournament from Sunday in South Africa.
The players said they enjoyed their stay at the Hotel which is located just next to the Guyana National Stadium at Providence and hoped to someday return as guest to the East Bank Demerara Hotel.
It was also disclosed by a Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) official that the Hotel has agreed a further discount on the entire bill for the time the team was at the hotel and to again assist any National cricket team in the future.
It is understood that the total cost for the team to be accommodated at Princess Hotel was over $8 million and that a huge discount was made from that figure. The Team also stayed there on Sunday night when they returned from their respective homes to prepare for their departure yesterday.
Kaieteur Sport was told that Mr. Kulekci of Princess Hotel and Ramsay Ali, Marketing Manager, GCB will have discussions this week to see how Princess Hotel can assist the GCB in future events when cricket teams are required to stay in Demerara.
“Princess Hotel has agreed to give a huge discount on the expenses incurred by the GCB to have the Guyana Amazon Conquerors stay there.
The Princess Hotel was ideal for the team due to the hotel’s close proximity to the Guyana National Stadium while the swimming pool situated in Princess Hotel…provided perfect training sessions for the team,” the GCB said.
Mr. Kulekci said it was a pleasure that Princess Hotel played a role in the team’s preparation and wished them success in South Africa.
He promised to assist the Guyana team on their return and says that Princess Hotel will always be ready to assist the Guyana Cricket Board in the future.
Guyana play their first match on Sunday morning (Guyana time) and Kaieteur News will continue its extensive coverage of the National cricket team by bringing all the exciting news, views, interviews and photographs from South Africa from this weekend.
