Multiple South American 10km Road Race winners, Cleveland Forde and Alika Morgan made light work of the inaugural Ainlim 10km course yesterday, winning the male and female groups well ahead of their closest rivals in overcast weather conditions.
Forde, who ran with a pack that included Wilbert Mingo, Dennis Horatio and Cleveland Thomas for half of the race, left them on his way down from the return point at Sterling Products to pace himself for victory in 35:33, which was well above his best time.

Mingo collapsed and was unable to finish, but Horatio avenged his lost to Thomas last Sunday in Linden with 37:06, which landed him second. Thomas finished third in 37:26 while Patrick Bobb was promoted to fourth, following Chavez Sital’s disqualification.
Morgan returned 43:47 in winning the female race after she launched an early attack on a course that she later described as difficult. “I did not like the course,” Morgan told Kaieteur Sport when asked is she was satisfied with her performance in the race.
Jevina Straker was second in 44:56 with Ashanti Scott finishing third in 45:49. Carlissa Atkinson placed fourth. Alisha Fortune, Simone Baduram and Loriann Adams finished the female masters’ race in that order while Llewellyn Gardner, Kwane Bright and Maurice Julian were the male top three respectively.
Chief Executive Officer for Ainlim, Lekhnaraine Shivraj congratulated all the participants at the presentation ceremony, stating that he and the company are “a bit disappointed with the entrants for the event but they are grateful for those that turned out.”
Shivraj said that the event was part of Ainlim’s contribution toward the development of sport and the company is known for such community work. He said that the event will become a fixture on the Athletics Association of Guyana annual calendar of events.
Chief Executive Officer of Neal and Massy Guyana, Deo Persaud reiterated Shivraj’s sentiments on the participation of athletes, stating that he was more disappointed over the fact that some of his staff had not participated in the anniversary 10km run and 5km walk.
All of the winners in the various categories received cash prizes and trophies.
