The course has been marked, the entries are in and it’s now down to the challenge that raises this question: who will take on seasoned distance runners, Cleveland Forde and Alika Morgan today when the inaugural Neal and Massy 10km Road Race gets underway?
Forde and Morgan, who are both multiple winners of the annual South American 10km race, will enter this morning’s race as clear favourites in the open male and female categories. The big race is scheduled to start at 6:30am in front Ainlim in Ruimveldt.
The race will proceed to Sterling Products in Providence on the eastern carriage and finish at the starting point. The winners of the open male and female races will pocket $50,000 while second, third and fourth places get $40,000, $30,000 and $20,000 respectively.
Trophies will accompany all cash prizes, while female masters Over-35 and males Over-40 races is to attract a $30,000 cash reward for the winners with second and third places getting $20,000 and $15,000 in that order along with trophies.
Guyana Defence Force’s Wilbert Mingo, Police Progressive Youth Clubs, Dennis Horatio and an the emerging Cleveland Thomas will most likely challenge Forde for the top spot in the male race while Morgan should dominate the female race.
