Play in the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sport sponsored Mahdia Inter-Block Football tournament was set to conclude at the Mahdia ground with defending champions Airstrip seeking to hold onto the title.
Airstrip will line up alongside RH Lions under floodlights for the championship trophy and $25,000 donated by Mahdia businessman Roger Hinds.
Airstrip overcame Campbelltown 5-1 on a day when 11 goals were scored. Lennox Matheson put them in the lead in the 35th minute as the score remained that way going into the break. Gordon Leitch (40, 70) and Captain John Joseph (55, 60) with doubles ensured a comfortable win. Mario Henry (47) made the lone response for Campbelltown.
RH (Roger Hinds) Lions overran the Masters 5-0 in the second encounter to book their spot in the final.
Steve Brewley in the 14th and 50th, Bevon Mendonca 59th, and Dellon Wire in the 52nd and 63rd minutes were all on target for the marauding Lions.
The MVP of the tournament will collect $10,000 compliments of Mandy Solomon, a Mahdia businesswoman.
