The Guyana Floodlights Cricket Association (GFCA) is now embarking on the third such tournament which starts next Sunday September 12 at various venues throughout the country. This third tournament is being sponsored by Kubota Industrial Generators and Engines and Tohatsu Outboards through distributors General Marine and was launched on Thursday.
Director of Sports Mr. Neil Kumar, who was present at the launching, congratulated the Guyana Floodlights Cricket Association for taking up the initiative. He thanked the sponsor and offered his to support in anyway from a government point of view. Mr. Kumar also proposed to the GFCA to organise a tournament for teams from all over the country to play at the National Stadium.
Entrance fees for this Masters Cup 25 overs softball tournament is $5,000, while the female 10/10 softball is $2,500. Winning teams for both competitions will receive a huge trophy with $50,000 cash, while the runner up teams will receive trophy and $25,000 cash. There will also be trophies for various outstanding individual performances throughout the competition.
In an effort to standardize balls, teams are asked to use the yellow “Supreme Floodlights” ball.

The regular Over-40 competition called the “Masters Cup” and “Female Softball Cricket Competition” became a reality in the last few years mainly due to the initiative of the Guyana Floodlights Cricket Association.
The association has been involved in many fundraising activities throughout the country and has raised millions of dollars for various organizations and is also the only softball body who has sent teams for the last three years to the World Premier Softball event, known as the “Florida Cup” in the USA.
The first “Masters Cup” and Female softball Competition were sponsored by Mike’s Pharmacy, while the second by 4R are on hold at the quarterfinal stage due to pending clarification with a team making its first participation in the Masters Cup.
The “Master Cup” and “Female Softball” competition will go on despite this setback with the newly launched event.
