Education Month officially begins on Monday September 6 and ends on October 6 and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport in partnership with the Caribbean Press, facilitated a one-day creative writing workshop for aspiring writers, at the Carifesta Sports Complex on Thursday.
Participants included youths from across the country and the exercise was aimed at developing their writing skills.
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Dr. Frank Anthony described it as the beginning of a revolution aimed at unleashing Guyanese creativity.
According to literary activist, Petamber Persaud, the hope is that following the venture, several pieces will be published in the Caribbean Press, since the workshop gives youths an opportunity to develop their creative writing skills in a structured manner.
Persaud disclosed that a “Festival of Words” would be hosted in December, in commemoration of poet Martin Carter’s death anniversary, where various pieces by mature and new writers are expected.
