Dear Editor,
The Ministry of Education had repetitive notices all day (Tuesday 31-08-10) on the radio and a report carried in the Kaieteur News about the “contingency fees” and monies being collected by school head teachers and teachers across Guyana.
The warnings from the Chief Education Officer came in the heels of letters in the press recently alleging solicitations of monies for test paper printing, slashing school compounds for inter school sports and other events and registering new intake Grade 7 students. However, while I applaud the Central Ministry’s efforts, what are they going to do about the monies already collected and which probably have already been deposited in the bank accounts of these schools.
It is hoped therefore, that investigations be carried out at all levels that will ensure that monies collected thus far from parents be reimbursed immediately to these parents. Nothing else is acceptable at this time.
