Head Coach of the national rugby squad Theodore Henry speaking with Kaieteur Sport during a practice session yesterday at the National Park said that the team is about 60% fit right now, but was adamant that that present situation will improve even before they leave for Barbados to attend a Camp to be conducted by Technical Director Joe Whipple.
Henry, who is also a member of the team disclosed that the current focus is still on getting the team back to the level of fitness witnessed during the CAC and NACRA Tournaments.
“We are still focusing of gaining the level of fitness that we had during the CAC and NACRA Tournaments, but we’re also doing some ball handling as well,” Henry stated.
He said he was optimistic that by the tine the team is ready to leave for the Camp in Barbados they would’ve attained about 90% fitness.
“We still have some work to do in Barbados and England where a few practice games have been arranged so by the time we arrive in India our fitness level and preparedness should be at the desired level.”
He revealed that most of the technical work will be done by Whipple when the team arrives in Barbados on September 18 subject to confirmation by the Guyana Olympic Association.
Meanwhile, a practice game is scheduled to be held this Saturday at the GDF ground and that will be followed by the final practice game the next Saturday at the National Stadium where it is planned that the team will be met by His Excellency President Bharrat Jagdeo.
