Under the theme “Consolidation of Post in the Caribbean” the Guyana Post Office Corporation (GPOC) will host the 13th Annual Caribbean Postal Union Conference from 6th – 9th September at the Grand Coastal Hotel, Le Ressouvenir, East Coast Demerara.
According to Public Relations Officer of GPOC, Yolaskee Jervis, twenty-three (23) delegates from the Caribbean, North America and Europe are expected to attend the conference. The forum will address challenges faced by the postal service in the Caribbean with the intention of focusing on the regional way forward for the industry.
Jervis disclosed that the Caribbean Postal Union provides a “platform to address collective issues” and “technical support” among many other functions for the region and other postal administrations.
“A benchmark of this year’s conference will be sessions with CARICOM to discuss how collaboration can be achieved to enhance the Postal sector.”
Adding that suppliers of postal products from across the continents have been invited to the Conference, Jervis said that those suppliers will have on display their products and services.
“The GPOC will also have a philatelic display at the said location and a number of schools, especially those along the East Coast Demerara , will be invited to view the exhibits and make purchases of rare and interesting stamps.”
