On his first official function, new Chinese Ambassador to Guyana, Yu Wenzhe, yesterday made a sizeable donation of boots, helmets and bullet-proof vests from his government to the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), at the army’s headquarters, Camp Ayanganna.
The envoy formally handed over 1,400 boots, helmets, and bullet-proof vests, significantly enhancing the GDF’s supplies.
Ambassador Yu told those gathered that the donation is an example of the friendship and cooperation between the two countries and their armies.
Adding that he was overwhelmed by the hospitality of the Guyanese people, the envoy expressed hope that there would be more rewarding occasions of this nature while he is ambassador.
Chief of Staff Commodore Gary Best, who received the gifts on behalf of the army, expressed gratitude and stated that they fit perfectly into the defence outreach and demonstrate the strong bilateral relations between Guyana and the Peoples’ Republic of China.
