Thirty-four year-old Oma Devi Singh, the woman who was found floating in a trench on Sunday morning at Skeldon, died from manual strangulation. That was the conclusion of a post mortem conducted on Tuesday by Dr. Vivikenand Brijmohan at the Skeldon Hospital.
The resident of 536 Block 19 Section ‘A’ Line Path, Skeldon, went missing on Saturday and was found floating in a trench about 06:30 hrs at Middle Walk Dam Canal, Skeldon.
According to reports reaching Kaieteur News, the woman was with other relatives celebrating her mother Nanomai Pokai’s 70th birthday on Saturday last at her home. She left the celebration around 19:30 hrs to go and buy plantain chips, but did not return.
The mother of one who lived with a male friend was found floating on Sunday morning in the trench by an estate supervisor who was going into the backdam via boat. When the body was found it was clad only in a top, but relatives said when she left the house she was fully dressed.
It was first suggested that the woman had died by drowning, but the police are now treating the case as one of homicide. One person is in custody as police intensify their investigations. Reports state that her male companion was at the party for the entire duration.
