Murdered miner was “peacemaker”

Sylvester Simon, of St Ignatius, the miner who was stabbed to death on Sunday may have been the peacemaker.
Clyde Bernibus, 21, who was stabbed once to chest explained that the incident started over a female that he (Bernibus) recently started dating. Yesterday when this newspaper visited Bernibus, who is a patient in the Male Medical Ward, a large tube was inserted into his abdomen, which was draining fluids from his body. He was also receiving intravenous drips. Bernibus said that on Sunday he was having a drink with some friends when the suspect approached him.
He alleges that the suspect began arguing with him about his relationship with his present girlfriend, who is the suspect’s ex.
“He started to argue with me…he vex because de girl left he and she with me now” said Bernibus.
The man further alleges that the suspect whipped out a knife and began advancing towards him.
Kaieteur News was told that Simon who wasn’t seated a far distance away got in between them and was stabbed.
Bernibus was also stabbed in melee and had to be air dashed to Georgetown.
According to a police statement, investigations revealed that Simon was fatally stabbed during an argument with another man who has been arrested and is in police custody.
Kaieteur News was reliably informed that the suspect was brought to the hospital late last night.
Hospital sources said that he had some minor cuts and bruises about the body, but nothing life threatening.
A group of police officers have been dispatched to the area to conduct investigations.
