– hosts rebound to win 10/10 affair
An attractive unbeaten 99 from Barbados U-15 player Jonathan Drakes and a five wicket haul by Matthew Jones guided the touring Combermere U-15 school team of Barbados to a comfortable 148 run victory over a Wakenaam select U-15 X1 in a 40 over match played on Tuesday at the Wakenaam Community Centre ground.
The tourist batted first and scored 205 – 7 off their allotted overs. Drakes slammed eight fours and one six in his half century and got support from Shane Proverbs who made 29 (2×4). Off spinner Rashaad Rasheed bagged 4-27 and left arm spinner Moin Khan 3-27 for the host who were skittled out for 57 in 18.1 overs in reply.
Moin Khan (12) and Ricardo Adams (11) were the only batsmen that reached double figures in a disappointing batting display. Spinner Jones grabbed 5-1 while Devon Gordman and Ian Boyce picked up two wickets each for the victors.
Meanwhile, the home team were able to turn the table around in the second match which was a 10/10 affair. The Wakenaam X1 batted first and mustered 69 – 9 in 10 overs with Leorayan Ramlakhan leading the way with 28 (2×4, 1×6) while Adams contributed 16. Derrol Harewood claimed 4-10 and Matthew Jones 2-6 for Combermere.
The visitors in response made 66-6 when their overs expired. Harewood returned to top score with 26 (1×4, 1×6) as Moin Khan took 2-6 for the Wakenaam X1 who won the game by 3 runs.
