…as police work study attachment concludes
Assistant Chief Education Officer (ag), Melcita Bovell lauded the efforts of the Guyana Police Force in their collaborative efforts with the Ministry of Education and the Georgetown Technical Institute (GTI) when this year’s work study programme sponsored by the Ministry came to an end last Thursday.
The ceremony was held at the Police Inspectors and Sergeants Mess, Eve-Leary and was attended by students of several secondary schools including the G.T.I.
“It is wonderful to watch the concept of work-study unfold,” said Ms Bovell, moments after the culmination of the cultural presentation.
She further noted that students working together in team spirit and commitment depict the hallmark of success. “You should employ this motto whenever job opportunities are opened for you,” she urged the students.
Assistant Superintendent of Police, Walter Stanton, also delivered brief remarks in the evaluation speech. He lauded the programme calling it a success. The Assistant Superintendent informed the students that the programme was meant to edify them in the intricacies of the operations of the various departments of the Guyana Police Force, including those in the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), the Commissioner’s Office, the Immigration Section, the Felix Austin Police College, Firearms Section, Communications, Quarter Master Store and every other department within the control of the Guyana Police Force.
Shortly before the speeches, the students entertained the audience with colourful and energetic displays of dances, drama, poetry and songs.
This second batch of students commenced their work-study programme July 26 last with 49 students drawn from various Secondary Schools around the country. The objective of the sessions was to prepare students for meaningful participation in the world of work.
The need for self discipline in the real world was also emphasised and labelled as pertinent in seeking and maintaining employment.
