The HSV Swift, a ship of US Navy and US Marines, will arrive on the south end of the Guyana National Shipping Corporation dock at 10: 00 hours today.
The Guyana visit is part of Southern Partnership Station 2010, a major component of the partnership of the Americas maritime strategy from USSOUTHCOM, with the goals of ensuring greater security and strengthening relationships among regional partners.
This is the first time a U.S. naval vessel or vessel under contract to the U.S. Navy has moored pier side in Georgetown.
The Swift will visit Guyana from Aug. 28 to Sept. 10 as part of the ship’s deployment to eight countries.
Sailors and Marines from the ship will exchange expertise with members of the Guyanese Navy, Coast Guard and civilian services. Members of the Swift will also deliver humanitarian assistance items and assist in a community relations event.
In addition to Guyana, the Swift is visiting Barbados, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Jamaica, Nicaragua, and Panama during this deployment.
