The Young Achievers Sports and Culture Club will stage a variety concert today at the Golden Grove Community Center from 6.00 pm.
According to Aaron Blackman, the Social Worker attached to the group, the club, which consists of young people between the ages of six to 18 years old, will feature dance, poetry, drama, folk singing and drumming. The group is using this activity as a fundraiser activity to aid in the purchasing of sports gear and costumes for their outfit.
The Social Worker disclosed that the Young Achievers are focusing on productions that can be hits on the international markets, “and with the 2014 Football World Cup to be held in Brazil, we have begun preparations to share our Guyanese culture with the Brazilian people and those fans coming to witness the many games to be held in venues across the many cities in Brazil.”
“We are encouraging young people from the Grove/Haslington Community to become members of the group and join in the rehearsals that are held from 4.00pm to 7.00pm, Mondays to Fridays weekly. We also appeal to the Government, International donor agencies and the wider community to support these young people in their quest to lift the standard of their performances, and so make us all proud as a nation.”
