It’s still anybody’s Championship and that will be decided this evening at the GCC Ground Bourda, the final day of the 3rd Annual Inter Guiana Football Club Championship.
Alpha United are in pole on 4 points (1 win 1 draw) followed by the Guyana Defence Force (2 draws) and Suriname’s Inter Moengotapoe (2 draws) both on 2 points with French Guiana’s Gelder de Kourou on a single point (1 loss 1 win). To date only one game produced a win (Alpha 3 Gelder 1) the other three matches ending in draws.
With that statistic in mind, two keen contests can be expected to bring the curtain down on this year’s edition of the competition, Alpha facing Inter Moengotapoe in the main event at 20:00hrs, Gelder and the GDF facing off from 18:00hrs.
The GDF stormed back to snatch a 2-2 draw against Alpha in the main attraction on Friday afternoon and will be a confident bunch going into this afternoon’s game against the French side which has shown that they can do much better.
Army Coach Luiz Franco speaking after Friday’s exhilarating match said they are confident of going all the way and are hoping that Inter Moengotapoe can hold Alpha to a draw.
Alpha Coach Wayne Dover noted his disappointment in the way his charges played against the Army and is looking forward to a much more composed performance against the Dutch side tonight.
All the teams have players who can deliver in offence and defence but it will surely be the hungriest of the lot that will come out as champions tonight.
Teams will have the early afternoon heat to contend with and with cool conditions under lights fans can look forward to more energized play.
The fit GDF team will relish such conditions. Who will win the championship? You have to be at the GCC to find out. Kick off time is 18:00hrs and admission is $1000.

‘Reds’ contributes gear to GCA & GNA
The Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) this morning received two pairs of Wicketkeeping gloves from Guyanese-born International Cricket Commentator Joseph ‘Reds’ Perreira.
The presentation was done at Cara Lodge in Georgetown and Perreira said the donation is the fulfillment of a promise he made to the GCA.
The 71-year-old founder of the Reds Pereira Sports Foundation urged the GCA to make full use of the gloves.
GCA President and former West Indies off-spinner Roger Harper assured Perreira that the gloves will be put to maximum use and thanked him for the timely contribution. Perreira also presented a Net-ball and a set of bibs to the Guyana Netball Association.
