$10M on offer and over 100 horses on show

The day has finally arrived as all is set for the King of Sports, with over 100 horses are down to be in the arena, thousands of turfites expected at the edge of their seats, the atmosphere is electrifying, the bugle sounds the gate is released and away they go for the start of Guyana Cup 2010. Not to forget that $10M is up for grabs in the 10-race event.
That’s the scenario promised for today’s Jumbo size Fourth annual Guyana Cup horse race meet organized by the Jumbo Jet Auto sales and Stables in Collaboration with The Rising Sun Turf Club at Rising Sun, Arima Park West Coast Berbice.
Beverage Giants Banks DIH continues to lead the way with sponsorship worth a sizeable $2.2M and they have admirably taken over sponsorship of the main C class event.
The winner is expected to canter of with a sumptuous $1.2M along with the banks DIH trophy and bragging rights. This event is pack with runners all with some reputation of note.
The Elcock stables have thrown three top runners in the main class event. Two pre race favourites in Miss Republic and the Message lead the way along with newly imported Prince Charming, gave the Elcock stables the edge.
Newly imports Zafar of the Jagdeo stables along with the much vaunted Home Bush Baby and Marathon Man of the Jumbo Jet stables have all come with very big reputations and will be looking to make their mark. The other runners are all in with a chance in their quest for the big money in what is expected to be a scorcher over 1600M.
The answer of who will celebrate in the 3yr old Zenyatta’s Memorial classic for horses born and bred in Guyana and the West indies will see a return clash between Peaceful and Celebration Time of the Elcock stable and Sabrina’s Princess of the Jagdeo’s entity. Five Star General will also be looking to take the royal salute along with Got To Go, Appellin Harvest and Fairy Landing in their pursuit for the hefty $1M and trophy donated by the Jumbo Jet Auto sales also over 1600M.
The E & Lower event sponsored by Jumbo Jet Auto Sales & Guytrack which is an 1100M affair pits Night Crescendo of the Crawford stable against the likes of the Gap, Fresh Prospect and Maracas Star for the $600,000 top prize and trophy.
Better Than Gold of the Jagdeo stables will be looking to continue its gold medal run in the two year old race for horses born and bred in Guyana and the West Indies but will first have to get past the likes of Subrina Joy and Big Impact both of the Jumbo Jet Stable in the Jumbo Jet Auto Sales & Cummings Electrical sponsored race worth $800,000 for the winner.
Wicked Intentions of the Persaud stable will be aiming for another wicked run down the homestretch as is seeks its third successive win in the Two year old event sponsored by Jumbo jet for locally bred horses against the likes of Super Cat, Royale Salute, King Gambler, J.D Junior and Speed Vision in what is expected to be a fast race. The win is guaranteed $400,000 and trophy.
The G & lower showdown sponsored by Digicel will see the animals burning up the track in their quest for the $400,000 first prize and trophy. Pixie Fire, Stylish Line, Zip PA de Do Da and Gabriel’s Gold will all be in the gold medal hunt.
The H& Lower stakes has been supported by Imperial Manufacturers & Dependable Spares with the top horse guaranteed winnings of $300,000 and trophy with Finishing Touch battling Prospector Pride and Baby Boy as the favourites.
Yellow Mining takes charge of the ‘I & Lower race as Miami Vice will be looking to clamp a hold on its opponents which includes Savion, Little Spike, and De Gump for the $200,000 winnings and trophy.
The event for horses classified I’& Lower for animals with one win and lower is sponsored by Two 2 Brothers Guyana Limited which has put aside $150,000 plus trophy for the winner of the event with Savion, Little Spike, Miami Voice and De Gump among those in the hunt.
Innovative has assured runners in the Division 1&2 category of their winnings with sponsorship of $100,000 plus trophy for the winner. The race is expected to be a serious affair with Sporting Time, Black Beauty and Royal Time battling for supremacy.
Added attractions including games for Adults and children are all part of the day’s proceedings.
Jamaican Jockey Andron Findlay has been in Guyana for just over three months acclimatizing for this big event and will compete against the likes of overseas based Guyanese Sunny Singh just off of a successful tour in his adopted land of Canada.
They will throw down the gauntlet against a host of top riders from Guyana including Paul Delph, Rupert Ramnauth, Daniel Flores, Krishna Singh who is back home after a short sojourn overseas, Kevin Paul, Yap Drepaul, Winston Apadhu and Apprentices Mark Vassey and Krishna Singh.
The top Jockey a along with the runner up, The top stable and Champion trainer will all be presented with accolades compliments of Ramesh Sunich of The trophy stall Bourda market.
Slingers Sound Machine and Black Widow Power Sounds will be keeping fans occupied through the day’s proceedings.
Banks BIH beverages along with Chester fried Chicken and Chips and BBQ will on sale with entertainment set to go way into the night.
