(Flashback) - Action in the match between Rollers of Berbice and Castrol Strikers of Georgetown in the previous round.
National champions Young Achievers will start as overwhelming favourites to take top honours again today when the Castrol Strikers / Guyana Volleyball Federation-organised Tournament continue, at the Port Mourant Training Centre.
The West Demerara unit have so far dominated all three rounds of the Tradewind Tankers Shipping Company of Barcelona, Spain, playing unbeaten and in the process carting off the top prize as winners of the round.
In the previous round at the GTM Court in Berbice, Young Achievers came home ahead of Rollers and Port Mourant respectively, while Castrol Strikers and Port Mourant ‘B’ closed out the remaining spots in that order.
Once again, Achievers will look to inspirational Captain Randy Adams to lead their quest for a semi-final spot and he should be capably supported by the lanky Cleveland Peters, who was in devastating form close to the net.
Rollers on the other hand appeared to be rounding into form at the right time and their chances of upsetting Achievers rest on the shoulders of Osafo Dos Santos, who had a solid performance during the last outing, while the experience of Romel Bansie and Errol Chase should be crucial.
Castrol Strikers, who has a few players with national experience have been a bit disappointing so far, but should not be counted out since they are capable of producing top-class performances.
Players such as Dexter Hoppie, Adolph Davis and Ian Wills have loads of experience between them and ruling them out of making the semi-finals might not be a wise thing.
Port Mourant is a team mixed with experience and youth, but former national player Seon Glasgow have proven to be a one-man show on many occasions and could very well take matters in his own hands come today.
The other team in the competition Port Mourant ‘B’ though they gave a fighting performance in the last round might find the occasion too much for them to handle.
Starting time today is 10:00 hrs and teams are being asked to be punctual.
