Beverage Giants Banks DIH has thrown its support behind the Guyana Cup, the largest horserace meet of the year.
Outdoor Events Manager, Mortimer Stewart, presented the winner’s trophy and sponsorship package worth $2.2M to Event Coordinator Melissa Chattergoon for the main event on the programme, the Guyana Cup Classic (C & Lower) race.
In making the presentation, Stewart said, “Banks is proud to be associated with Jumbo Jet fraternity. Indeed Jumbo Jet has shown great success in the sportsmanship of horse racing in Guyana. Banks is committed to excellence and that’s the reason why we’re with Jumbo Jet’s association. Banks will continue to support not only horseracing, but all the other activities throughout the length and breadth of Guyana. We would like to thank the Jumbo Jet association as a sponsor and will continue to support Jumbo Jet in future endeavors.”
In response, Miss Chattergoon stated, “On behalf of my father, Nasrudeen Mohamed (Jumbo Jet) and the Jumbo Jet Stable, I would like to thank Banks DIH for their superb contribution. They willingly grabbed the largest race of the day, the Guyana Cup Classic which is the C & Lower race for a total purse of $2,250,000. Banks had proudly support us throughout the years of our horse races and we look forward to their continuous generosity and involvement to make the Guyana Cup of this magnitude a success. I would like to encourage everyone to come out with their friends and family to enjoy. It is a great way to end the summer in pure excitement as well as a day to remember. Banks is also holding the bar at the Guyana Cup. It is s very important that everyone abides by the rules of the Guyana Cup and not do any illegal vending.”
Ten races are carded on the days programme and turfites are in for an exciting day of racing tomorrow at the Rising Sun Turf Club, Arima Park West Coast Berbice.
The Banks sponsored main event has attracted several of the country’s leading thoroughbreds and it is expected to be a scorcher of an event. Sweet Revenge of the Jagdeo Stable, Home Bush Baby of the Jumbo Jet Stable, Marathon Man also of the Jumbo Jet Stable and Miss Republic of the Colin Elcock are some of the favourites on show in this race.
